Here's my latest Step by Step drum tuning lesson "PowerTone/UV2 TomTuning Tutorial" in which I take you STEP BY STEP from ground to sound through three great tom tuning intervals for a 12"/14" tom setup while maintaining a Perfect 4th interval BETWEEN the toms at all tunings. These are intervals I've used in my 22 years as a pro drum tech tuning drums for artists such as Stevie Wonder, Rhianna, and Dead & Co. With step by step overhead shots/graphs, pitches, tune bot settings, AND drum dial settings this is a GREAT tutorial for any drummer wanting to learn how to tune a drum step by step to 3 great tom tuning intervals. Tuning interval 1: Even tuning where the batter, and resonant heads of the toms are tuned equally to the same pitch. This interval has a long sustain, and a very rich tone. Usually a touch more pillowy as the heads move together in a similar wave pattern. Great for everything in terms of a basic all around drum sound. Tuning Interval 2: Reso a Major 3rd Higher Than The Batter. This tuning tightens up the sustain while keeping a round tone. A bit more definition, and attack. Great for classic rock, country, R & B, and jazz. Tuning Interval 3: Reso a Perfect 4th Higher Than The Batter. This tuning tightens up the sustain even more while keeping a warm tone, but with a bit more punch, definition, and attack. Great for rock, modern country, gospel, pop, and outdoor/large venues.

Howdy all. Here's a free lesson on how I seat, and stretch new drums heads for my artists when I'm on tour as a tech. I find that stretching under tension using my method gives you the best chance of an even stretch of the head for better tuning, and longevity of the head. It also gives you the best chance of the drum head maintaining it's tuning during it's first performance. Here's a great step by step lesson for learning how to tune toms for country music. The video teaches you how to tune to two tuning intervals I have found in my 23 years as a pro drum tech that Nashville drummers tend to use for their toms. The intervals you will learn are even tuning, and the reso a whole step higher than the batter. Also included is a step by step lesson on how to install, stretch, and seat new drum heads. After the seating I start the tuning lesson with the heads back to finger tight in case you are tuning with previously played drum heads. Tune bot, and Drum Dial settings are included for every tuning including tunings for the snare drum, and bass drum. This video covers a 12", 14" Floor Tom, a 20" Bass Drum, and a 14" Snare Drum.

Here's a great step by step lesson on how to tune a 10 lug 14" x 22" bass drum to 3 great tunings that I have often used for my touring drummers. One for drummers who like a tight batter head, one for drummers who like a loose batter head, and one that's a medium tension batter with a super low resonant head.
